Former Port Adelaide captain Tom Jonas, AFL great Shaun Burgoyne, and current players Logan Evans and Willie Rioli have travelled to Kangaroo Island to deliver powerful messages related to respectful relationships and safe driving to more than 300 locals.
Presented at Junction’s Pass It On community awareness and education event at Western Districts Sports and Community Club, players and PCL staff delivered an informal presentation on the importance of gender equality, and stamping out gender-based abuse.
Following the presentation, the players were joined by close to 100 kids for a football clinic before helping launch local safe driving initiative ‘Kangaroo Island Our Town, Drive Alive’.
An initiative of Kangaroo Island Community Education, the safe driving campaign was developed by students from Parndana who designed a range of collateral to raise awareness about the dangers of drink driving.
General Manager of Power Community Limited, Jake Battifuoco said he was proud to be part of the Pass It On event.
“It was a great event, and we’re proud to play a role in delivering an important initiative and also the opportunity to work with the community of Kangaroo Island,” Mr. Battifuoco said.
“Sport is such a powerful hook to have important conversations that address societal issues, and with that, we understand the influence our players and club have in the community, and the subsequent important role we can play in the prevention of violence against women.”
Pass It On was made possible through funding from the State Government via the Attorney-General’s Department.
